A local business owner is dead after being hit and killed by a teenage driver.

Nasheed Anwaar was on his way to check on his barber shop around 11:30 p.m. Friday, according to his employee, Davaras Bronson. He was hit and killed by 18-year-old Jose Carlos Ramirez, according to police.

The crash happened in northeast El Paso on Dyer Street and Hayes Avenue, according to EPPD. Dyer was closed in both directions while Special Traffic Investigators worked.

"His family's coming here in the next day or so, so we can get everything squared away," Bronson said.

Bronson said Anwaar owned G's Cutz and Clips. He and the other employees decided to keep the barber shop open Saturday to honor Anwaar.

"He would want us to continue to take care of people because he truly cared about the people," he said.

El Paso police said the incident was initially considered a hit-and-run until the driver returned to the scene and told officers what happened. Ramirez was charged with an accident involving death and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $200,000 bond.

Ramirez was also booked for two outstanding traffic warrants for speeding.
