EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — An El Paso police officer was injured after he was trying to prevent a thief from fleeing outside a Walmart in northeast El Paso.
The incident happened Saturday around 9:25 a.m. at the Walmart located at 5632 Dyer.
An 11-year-old veteran officer was working extra duty security at Walmart when a man walked out of the store without paying for some items.
The items were valued at over $300.
As the officer left the store he saw the man abandon the shopping cart and run towards a Honda Civic.
The officer tried to stop the man from fleeing.
However, the man refused to stop and ran over the officer’s foot as he fled the scene.
Officials said the suspect is a 25-year-old Hispanic man.
Crime Against Persons detectives continue to investigate the case.
