EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation on Wednesday received a $250,000 donation from Cesar Ornelas Injury Law to support families of pediatric patients receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
Ornelas said he was motivated to donate the money based on a prior experience that he had with his child at the hospital.
"One of the big reasons why we're making the initiative of donating back to the children's hospital is because when my first child was born three and a half years ago, he was three months premature and he spent three weeks in the ICU, and that was the most severe pain that I've ever experienced in my life," said Ornelas.

He said he wanted to help other families who may experience something similar at the hospital.
"I wanted to be able to lighten the burden of these families so they can focus solely on taking care of the child and making sure there's a speedy recovery," Ornelas explained.
A spokesperson for the hospital foundation said there are plenty of ways the money can be used to help families and kids in need.
"This donation really is exciting because it goes to our children, to the resources we have here at the hospital to help navigate those little missing items that you need when you arrive at the hospital, any kind of medicine that maybe is not covered by your insurance, there's a million ways we can help our patients get on the road to recovery," said Dr. Abigail Tarango, executive director of the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The hospital's emergency room is now named after Ornelas because of the donation.
The new sign was revealed at Wednesday's donation event.
Patients and their families attended the event along with hospital staff.
