Drivers stuck on I-10 after complete closure for GO10 construction
EL PASO, Texas —
Drivers were forced of I-10 Tuesday as TxDOT crews completed work on the Go 10 project.
Semi-trucks and RVs were forced off of I-10 and onto Mesa Street starting at9 p.m.
Drivers traveling east exited the freeway at Sunland Park Drive and onto Mesa Street. Westbound travelers exited on Sunland Park Drive onto Mesa Street and back off at Executive Drive. The closure will last until 5 a.m. Wednesday.
El Paso police officers were stationed all along Mesa to control traffic.
Traffic was the busiest at 9 p.m. when the closure began.
Alejandra Diaz told KFOX14 she didn’t know about the closure.
“I had no idea. I'm really mad,” Diaz said.
Diaz said she was frustrated the closure was scheduled so close to Thanksgiving.
“It's the holidays. There's people coming in from every direction. They should already know that it's going to be packed,” she said.
TxDOT has not done a complete closure since July.
