Downtown historical survey reviewed by El Paso County commissioners

Downtown El Paso

County commissioners voted to go into executive session Monday to discuss a downtown historical survey.

An Austin-based firm was hired to complete the survey in 2016.

More than a thousand buildings will be surveyed in downtown, Chihuahuita and Segundo Barrio.

Historical architects recommended the area be considered for a historic district.

Part of this location has been under a lot of debate.

The Union Plaza is where to controversial arena project is scheduled to be built.

After discussing the survey, the commissions are scheduled to take action on this draft report.

It should be pointed out that commissioners are not voting on making the downtown area a historical district on Monday, just looking at this one firm's report.
