EL PASO, Texas — The hail storm that swept through Friday came as a surprise to most people living in the Borderland.
On Monday insurance claims can be made, many people with hail damage say they will be trying to get their cars and property repaired as soon as possible.
Eleanor Quintana lives on the far east side of El Paso. She said the hail damaged the roof of her home as well as her vehicles.
Patricia Zamora agreed: “We didn't expect that. itIt was very quick, like, I don't know, five minutes, 10 minutes we got flooded with water and hail. We got scared."
Neighbors are worried insurance claims will be difficult to get.
"The trouble of claiming, I know it's gonna take a while. I'm pretty sure we aren't the only ones that got hail damage. I'm sure there are a lot of people in El Paso that have damage so it's gonna take a while,” Quintana said.
A representative from State Farm says more than, 1,100 storm damage claims have been reported in El Paso since Friday.
Although some fear their premiums will go up, Rosie Guajardo with Premier Dent Works Auto Hail Repair
said people shouldn’t have that fear.
"Nothing comes out of the victim's pocket because it is a 'Mother Nature' cause, therefore their premiums will not rise at that time,” Guajardo said.
Guajardo said once an insurance adjuster gets an estimate for the damage, the vehicle is sent to a shop that specializes in hail damage repairs.
Some neighbors said they aren’t worried about their insurance coverage.
"Always I trust the insurance that we have because the past time we had the hail, they covered pretty much so we don't have any problems, so I hope so this time,” Zamora said.
Car experts say it’s important that vehicle damages are repaired correctly, by hail damage experts or else the value of the car will diminish when it’s time to get a new one.
