Water main break creates sinkhole in west El Paso neighborhood

Sink hole at Westwind and Isla Del Rey drives

A water main break is affecting people in a west El Paso neighborhood.

The main break caused a sinkhole to open up Tuesday night.

Crews were working to restore services to dozens of people on Westwind and Isla Del Rey drives, according to the El Paso Water outage map.

El Paso Water restored water services to customers affected around 3 a.m., said EPW spokeswoman Christina Montoya.

At some point a sink hole opened up.

Crews filled it and blocked off Westwind Drive.

Isla del Rey and Westwind are reopened with one lane closed as crews make repairs to the roadway, said Montoya.

In July, a large sinkhole opened up at the intersection of La Placita Avenue and Villa Hermosa Drive, just a few blocks away.
