El Paso City Manager Tommy Gonzalez previously said the four assistant chiefs within the El Paso Police Department would be given an opportunity to interview for the interim chief position.
Cruz-Acosta said the four assistant chiefs, Peter Pacillas, Zina Silva, Humberto Talamantes and Victor Zarur, have been working with Deputy City Manager Mario D’Agostino regarding day-to-day operations.
Our continuous improvement philosophy as an organization has guided our investment in our workforce. We have particularly committed expansive resources in training and development of our leadership in supervisory and leadership positions within the police department. With that in mind, we have developed our leadership pipeline in growing our own; and for that reason, we are confident we will find a strong interim Police Chief within our Police department," Cruz-Acosta stated.
The city plans to conduct a national search before making a final selection for the police chief position.
