Businesses prepare for I-10 closure Sunday
EL PASO, Texas —
Businesses in West El Paso are preparing for a major traffic jam on Sunday.
TxDOT, The Texas Department of Transportation, will close down I-10 east from Sundland Park Drive to Executive Center from 3 a.m. Sunday until 5 a.m. Monday. Two lanes will be closed on I-10 West. At 9 p.m. crews will shut down I-10 West completely until 5 a.m. Monday.
TxDOT says drivers will have to take Mesa Drive.
Joseph Keyson works at Bob-O's Family Fun Center on Sundland Park Drive near Doniphan Drive. He told CBS4 he expects Sunday to be closed Sunday.
"It's just really inconvenient for a customers coming over here," Keyson said.
Marquix Martinez is an assistant manager at Dry Bar Salon. She said business has taken a hit in the past during closures.
Luckily, Martinez said, the salon will be closed.
"There's nothing I can do about it. You just have to leave earlier and wake up earlier," Martinez said.
Carrie Halburt tells CBS4 the closure will be good for her work, Frozurt Yogurt.
"Everybody's just going to be stalled out on Mesa. We're hoping that we're going to get a lot more people than we normally do," Hulbert said.
TxDOT will be removing part of the Paisano Bridge on Sunday. Another closure is planned for July 31.
