The woman killed over the weekend in San Elizario was identified by El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

Cynthia Gonzalez, 47, died Saturday following a multi-vehicle crash near San Elizario High School.

“We did have one person transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead," said Leslie Antunez, the public information officer for the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. "No other injuries are reported.”

Police responded around 5:15 p.m. on Saturday to the intersection of Socorro Road and Herring Road.

There was a welcome party scheduled at 5 p.m. at San Elizario High School for the return of the boys soccer team, who won the state championship Friday. Police have not said if the victim was connected to the high school.

They did say that three cars were involved.

A passenger vehicle was traveling southbound on Herring Road when it struck a pickup traveling eastbound on Socorro Road.

"It looks like somebody ran the stop sign, which looks to be the red car that’s there... torn to shreds and it hit a blue truck," said Jesus Marquez, a San Elizario resident who got blocked off in the traffic. "It’s been a while since the ambulance took off because the people injured aren’t here anymore."
