Sunland Park man killed in Fourth of July crash on Anthony Gap ID'd
A Sunland Park man was killed in a head-on collision at the Anthony Gap on Fourth of July.
The crash happened just before 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Investigators said Rene Hernandez, 31, was driving a Chevy Suburban on the Anthony Gap when for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.
Hernandez crashed into a Ford F250 driven by a 27-year-old Chaparral man, investigators said.
The Chaparral man suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash investigators said.
Hernandez had to be airlifted to an area hospital where he later died.
Investigators do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. They said seat belts weren’t properly worn when the crash happened.
