The Texas Department of Transportation has announced another road closure that will affect Westside El Paso drivers starting starting in July.
In a news release, TxDOT announced that it will close part of I-10 every night for 11 nights starting on July 5.
According to the press release, these overnight closures will give construction crews time to hang steel girders, "Which will be part of the new I-10 westbound direct connect are ramps from Paisano."
However, TxDOT officials told KFOX14 that it wouldn't conduct complete road closures on I-10 west while Paisano Drive was closed between Sunland Park Drive and Executive for the next eight months.
KFOX14 reached out to TxDOT to ask about this closure but no one returned our messages.
Westside residents say they understand the thought behind the closure, but they wish TxDOT would do a better job of spreading the closures out so that they aren't stuck in traffic.
"They can do a little better planning and make it easier for the citizens because it's just really, really difficult right no. If you don't have to go out you're better off staying home," said Bill Willey. "There are so few ways to cross El Paso and if you're going to close the interstate, you need to make all the side access roads The I-10 West closures will last from July 5-11 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. It will close from the Buena Vista bridge to the Sunland Park overpass.
