A doctor in the trauma center at Del Sol Medical Center provided an update on some of the victims the morning after the El Paso mass shooting.

Dr. Stephen Flaherty, medical director of trauma at the hospital, spoke about the condition of the patients in that facility

Eleven patients are being treated at the eastside hospital; three people are in critical condition and eight people are in stable condition.

Hospital officials said they had a hard time identifying victims as they arrived, but eventually confirmed their identities.

Those identities have not been released.

The hospital is open to the public seeking treatment.

Flaherty said the victims at the their hospital will need more surgeries in the coming days.

The hospital's CEO, David Shimp, said one of the patients will be discharged Sunday.

Saturday's incident at Walmart was the first mass shooting in El Paso history.

Hospital staff said they were prepared for the worst, but were not prepared for the emotional toll.

"We recently had an expertise where we had a mock drill if there had been an active shooter in this city. How would those patients be distributed in the city? How would the hospital respond? We brought people into the hospital for a dry-run situation just like that. So we have been through this before without real patients. But as you know, when this happens for real and it’s not just an exercise, there are a lot of feelings and emotions attached to it,” Flaherty said.
