Adult Protective Services offers to fix A/Cs for vulnerable residents

Adult Protective Services in El Paso is offering to fix air conditioners for people ages 65 and older, as well as people who are disabled.

Grace Ortiz, community engagement specialist with APS, said the agency learned Monday that it is receiving state funds.

Ortiz did not specify how much the funds were, but did say they were sufficient enough to fix air conditioners and offer food, walkers and other medical necessities for some of the most vulnerable residents in El Paso.

“We have money available so if they need walkers, canes, they need a hearing aid (they can supply them),” said Ortiz.

APS can also help pay for electricity bills, according to Ortiz.

“A lot of people think Adult Protective Services is a bad thing. We’re not a bad person. We’re just trying to help those individuals live a better life with dignity in their home,” said Ortiz.

The funds must be spent by Aug. 31, according to Ortiz.

If you know of an older person or someone with disabilities who needs help, you are asked to call 1-800-252-5400 or report online at texasabusehotline.org
