Active cases spike to 13,653 with 854 new coronavirus cases in El Paso Wednesday

City health officials reported 854 new coronavirus cases in El Paso Wednesday morning along with 239 additional positive test results from the state.

According to the city's COVID-19 dashboard another record-breaking number of 908 patients are hospitalized. There are currently 223 in the intensive care unit and 111 people are on ventilators.

Three more patients have died bringing El Paso's death toll since the start of the pandemic to 583.

All three patients had underlying health conditions. They include:

1 man in his 60s

2 men in their 70s

There are currently 13,653 active cases, up 357 from Tuesday.

Active cases are those who still have yet to recover from the virus.

Since the start of the pandemic, 28,961 have recovered.
