Weekend events happening June 1-3

Weekend events is a weekly on-air segment and article which explores local events in the Borderland.

Alfresco Fridays, presented by El Paso Live, is in full swing. Tonight, Dulce Mal will take the stage at 6 p.m., offering the sounds of reggae and jazz.

Alfresco Fridays occur every Friday night through Aug. 24 at the Convention Center Plaza. No outside food or drinks are allowed however, food trucks and concessions are available for purchase on-site.

St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church will host its annual Feast of the Middle East Saturday and Sunday. The event is organized by the St. George Ladies Society and volunteers. The two-day festival features live Arabic music, folkloric dance and Middle Eastern food, including, but not limited to, tabouli, meat pies, homemade bread and baklava.

Admission to Feast of the Middle East is $2. Children ages 9 and younger, as well as military who show a valid ID, get in free.

St. George's is at 120 North Festival Drive, which is one block up from the intersection of Mesa Street and Festival Drive.

Hours for the event are noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Multiple performances of Disney's "The Lion King" will take place at Plaza Theatre in downtown El Paso this weekend.

Friday, June 1 at 8 p.m.

Saturday, June 2 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Sunday, June 3 at 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
