Weekend events happening Aug. 10-12

KFOX14 is helping students and parents throughout the Borderland make the easiest transition possible back into school this August.
As a look at some upcoming events, the below back-to-school events were featured on the KFOX14 morning show today.
Sunland Park Mall will host its annual Back to School Bash on Aug. 11 from 2-4 p.m. in the center court of the lower level. The event will feature stick-horse races and other contests with prizes for the kids. Various retailers throughout the mall have provided prizes for multiple raffle prize giveaways. Kids can also personalize their own pencil boxes at the event.
Lone Star Furniture, at 6229 Airport Road in east El Paso, will host a back-to-school fair on Aug. 11. The first 250 students, starting at noon, will receive a free backpack with school supplies. Event organizers say there will also be food, face-painting, music, a splash pad and more. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, and kids should wear their swimsuit to participate in water-related events. The first 100 guests will each receive a $100 gift certificate to Lone Star Furniture.
Cielo Vista Mall will host its annual Back to School Expo on Aug. 11. As part of tax-free weekend in Texas, the day's events include fashion shows, exhibits, vendors, shopping and more. From 8-10 a.m., students between the age of 4 and 18 who wear a school shirt or show a student ID will receive a free backpack filled with school supplies.
Meanwhile, in Las Cruces, the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum will host the Great American Pizza Festival. Event organizers say there will be 250 craft beers and wines, plus pizza samples from local and regional vendors. Tickets are $20 in advance, which includes 10 samples and a free T-shirt. Tickets are $25 at the door.
This weekend is the final weekend for the Plaza Classic Film Festival. Actor Bruce Dern will be signing autographs on Aug. 11 at the Foundation Room from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The last film to be screened at the festival, "Glory Road," will begin at 7 p.m. on Aug. 12 at the Plaza Theater.
