The co-owner of Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels is in jail, facing murder charges in connection with a water slide death in Kansas.

Jeff Henry was indicted in connection with the death of 10-year-old Caleb Schwab.

KFOX14Investigates looked into the number of injuries sustained in Schliterrbahn's Texas parks and local amusement parks as well as the injuries on amusement rides in El Paso.

Schlitterbahn's four Texas park locations reported 71 injuries between May 2013 and September of last year, injuries caused by slips, falls, and other guests.

KFOX14Investigates looked into records kept by the Texas Department of Insurance on local water parks and amusement parks.

Fourteen injuries were reported in the El Paso area from church carnivals, Wet and Wild and Peter Piper between 2013 and 2017.

These include things like knee pain, to cuts, stitches and fractures and the 2016 death of an El Paso teen.

Samantha Aguilar, 16, was killed after she was ejected from a ride called the Sizzler at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church carnival.

In 2014, two teenagers were injured when they fell out of a sidewinder at the Saint Anthony's church bazaar in El Paso.

A 2016 KFOX14 Investigation discovered an unsettling gap in safety, which shows no one is checking inspection stickers or daily inspection logs.

The Texas Department of Insurance says it doesn’t not have an enforcement division, leaving that up to local law enforcement

At the time, both the police department and sheriff’s office told KFOX14 investigates they don't check inspection records or daily logs.

According to state records, Dragon's Revenge is the most hazardous ride at Schlitterbahn, especially when it came to head, back and neck injuries.

A spokeswoman for Schlitterbahn referred us to the online statement that said, "Safety is a core value of our operation. Staff members are empowered through training and example to be responsible for safety for themselves, other staff members, and guests."
