Las Cruces man accused of sexually assaulting teen girl
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KFOX14) —
Police arrested a Las Cruces man suspected of having inappropriate sexual contact with a teenage girl last week.
Damien Guynes, 23, was arrested after police investigators learned he touched a girl inappropriately at a home, according to Las Cruces police officials.
The incident allegedly happened Thursday or during the early morning hours of Friday.
Police said Guynes on Thursday was drinking alcohol with others at a home. The girl, who lives at the home, told investigators that at about 4 a.m. Friday, Guynes entered her room and climbed into bed with her.
Guynes is then suspected of touching the girl inappropriately. The girl told investigators she was scared and pretended to be asleep, said police.
The girl reported the incident to a school counselor the next day, prompting the investigation by police and the state’s Children, Youth and Families Department.
When interviewed by investigators, police said Guynes corroborated the girl’s story and indicated he left the room when he realized what he was doing.
Guynes was arrested Friday evening and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. He has since been released on bond.
He was charged with one count of criminal sexual contact of a minor. The charge is a fourth-degree felony count.
