Beyond the Podium: Kizito "Zito" Ekechukwu

The seat that represents east and far east El Paso will be available in the upcoming midterm election.

Candidate for city rep. dist. 5, JKizito "Zito" Ekechukwu, spoke one-on-one with anchor John Purvis on the issues he wants to tackle if elected.

Ekechukwu said he wants to address street problems like the lack of street lights and speed bumps.

The Nigerian said his 1-year-old son inspired him to run.

He said he would also like to add a second police station to the fastest growing part of town.

Ekechukwu was arrested Aug. for a family violence charge.

He addressed his arrest on camera and said, "If I'm able to deal with adversity, then I'm able to stand strong with city issues."

Dist. 5 is currently held by Dr. Michiel Noe. Noe has termed out.
