Beyond the Podium: Karen Trujillo
DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. —
Democratic candidate Karen Trujillo is in the running for Dona Ana County commissioner District 5.
The seat is currently held by Republican Kim Hakes, who was appointed by Gov. Susana Martinez.
Nate Barrett sat down with Trujillo to talk about her platform and why she is running for office.
“I think I would represent Dist. 5 very well,” Trujillo said.
Trujillo moved to Las Cruces when she was in high school. She graduated from Mayfield High School.
“I’m born and raised in New Mexico. I’ve been an educator all of my adult life,” Trujillo said.
She said she has a lot of experience looking at issues in the community and in working with others to find solutions.
Trujillo says her top priorities include access to public education and transportation. She says her connections with the community makes her a good candidate for the district.
