Scoop on Savings – Halloween activities on a budget

Sylvan Learning Center shows KFOX14 how to make slime.

Next Tuesday (10/31) is Halloween, and in this week’s Scoop on Savings, I’ve got a fun activity for the kiddos if you plan on throwing them a Halloween party.

An idea i got from the Sylvan Learning Center, is one that will surely keep the kids busy. Slime.

Here’s what you’ll need to make it:

-Two cups of water.

-Ziploc bags.

-Elmer’s glue.

-Food coloring.

-Glitter (optional)

First, take one cup of warm water, and mix it with one teaspoon of Borax. Mix until the Borax becomes liquid.

Take the second cup of water, and mix it with glue in a Ziploc bag. In this step, you’ll need to put as much glue as you have water.

Zip up the bag and start kneading it together with your hands to get that slimy consistency.

The next step is adding food coloring. Three drops, to be exact. This is the fun part where the kids can get really creative.

Want the slime to be sparkly? Add some glitter! And again, close the Ziploc bag and knead it some more.

Don’t forget to close the Ziploc bag, otherwise you’ll have a big mess to clean up.

You can buy all the products to make slime at Dollar General.

If you want your kids to do more activities like this, they can sign up for STEM Camps and Workshops by Sylvan Learning Center.

This winter, there are classes from Dec. 27-29.

From 9 a.m. to noon, there will be a robotics camp for first- through third-graders. For fourth-graders through sixth-graders, the robotics camp is from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.

To sign up, go to or contact the center to register.
