In just two days’ animal advocates and environmentalist will come together to celebrate World Oceans Day.

Although we're in the desert and miles from the ocean there are several ways you can participate and help conserve our oceans.

World Oceans Day is a global day of ocean celebration and collaboration for a better future according to organizers. It's celebrated June 8th annually.

Advocates say a healthy world ocean is critical to our survival and this celebration provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve our world's shared ocean. The ocean is important because it: generates most of the oxygen we breathe, helps feed us, regulates our climate, cleans the water we drink, and provides limitless inspiration!

So how can you help? You can help educate and spread awareness with several resources available here.

You can take action and stop using plastic bags, bottles and straw. Advocates say plastic trash is a serious problem for our ocean, and especially all the animals that call it home, but together we can be part of the solution.

There are several events and activities happening around the nation. You can find out where or register an event through World Oceans Day.
