The summer months are especially hard for local shelters as they see thousands of animals enter their doors.

The El Paso Animal Services tells KFOX14 June and July they see some of their highest intakes.

As we reported on Forth of July they took in 130 animals and hundreds more following the holiday. Many escaping their homes and getting lost due to the fireworks.

In an effort to save lives and increase adoptions this month KFOX14 Pet Pals and Operation H.O.P.E's Heroes League, a local non-profit, are joining forces with the city shelter on Saturday for a big adoption event.

We're asking you to be a hero and come find your sidekick!

The shelter will be open from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and all adoptions fees will be waived.

The goal for the event is to clear the shelter in one day and find homes for the hundreds of animals currently in their care.

You'll have a chance to meet the Heroes League from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. and can take pictures with your new furry sidekick.

If you've lost a pet recently please contact or visit the shelter. Reclaim fees are waived throughout the summer in an effort to also reunite lost pets with their owners.
