Calendar shoot with local firefighters aims to save pets

Shelter pets were taken to Fire Station 5 for the calendar shoot with firefighters.

Local fire fighters are gearing up to help homeless pets in our community but need your support. KFOX14 got a sneak peek behind the special project that will help save lives in 2018.

The El Paso Fire Department has a great love for animals and to help save the lives of those left behind at the city shelter they're partnering with El Paso Animal Services for another calendar shoot. Some firefighters posed with pups and kittens at Station 5 in central El Paso for next year's calendar.

This is the second year they create a calendar to help spread awareness about adopting, being a responsible pet parent and breaking stereotypes about shelter pets.

Last year 1,000 copies of the 2017 calendar were made and just over 900 sold. Each cost $15 dollars and the funds raised were used to offset adoption fees and even helped the shelter host free adoptions.

This year spokesman Ramon Herrera said the shelter hopes to double up and sell 2,000 copies.

The calendars would be a great stocking stuffer, office gift and the best part is they also have a free adoption voucher so those who purchase the calendar can save a life or encourage someone else to adopt and allow them to stop by the shelter when they’re ready and find the perfect match.

This is a better alternate rather than gifting a pet because it allows your family of friends to not only save a life but education themselves on the process and fully understand the responsibility of becoming a pet parent. Also all adoptions from the city shelter include age appropriate vaccinations, city registration, microchip and spay or neuter surgery.

The 2018 calendars will go on sale in mid-December and they've reduced the price to just $10. Once they’re available you can buy them at El Paso Animal Services.
