Local shelters are offering adoption specials this month in an effort to continue being a “no-kill” community.

El Paso Animal Services and the Humane Society of El Paso are calling on the community to help clear the shelters.

Animal Services will be hosting free adoptions on Wednesday and Thursday. Adoption hours will be extended on those days, officials said. The shelter will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Humane Society of El Paso will also be staying open until 7 p.m. on those days. Adoption fees at the Humane Society will be reduced to half-price.

Those who pick up lost pets during the month of June can do so without paying the impound fee of $60.

Daily handling fees will also be waived. Shelter officials said fees for licensing services will still apply.

The public is also encouraged to foster animals for two weeks, which will allow Animal Services to transfer more animals to other rescue shelters.

Anyone looking to donate to Animal Services can do so by bringing in the following items:

  • Canned puppy and kitten food
  • Dry dog and cat food
  • Powdered formula
  • New or gently used towels and blankets
  • Crates and pet carriers
