When will the intersection of Montwood and Zaragoza be restriped?

A KFOX14 viewer named Rick asked this question: "When is the city going to restripe the intersection of Zaragoza and Montwood?" He said a lot of drivers use the bike lane at this busy intersection because the striping on the road isn't very clear. He believes it's an accident that's just waiting to happen.

I reached out to the spokeswoman for the city of El Paso's streets department, Tammy Fonce. In an email response, she said the buffered bike lane is not scheduled to be restriped at this time, but the area will undergo some improvements later this year as part of a Texas Department of Transportation project.

I then asked TxDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Wright about that project. She confirmed it, saying some major improvements are coming to the Montwood/Zaragoza intersection that will include a lot more than restriping the road.

I'll tell you more about this $10 million project and the improvements it will bring in my next post on Tuesday, April 17.
