How can I respond to robocalls?

The number of robocalls and spam calls has skyrocketed in the past year. According to First Orion, a company that offers call blocking technology, the number of spam calls has gone from less than 4 percent of all cellphone calls in 2017 to 30 percent of all calls this year.

Another company that provides call blocking technology, Teltech, provided me with figures that showed the El Paso/Las Cruces area received 20.6 million robocalls in October alone, and that number rose to 20.8 million calls in November. That's an average of 26 robocalls per person each month in our metro area. Teltech also says that's 25 percent higher than the national average.

Tamara, A KFOX14 viewer, told me on my Facebook page, the spam calls start slamming her phone at 7:30 every morning and don't let up until late at night.

Teltech provides an app called Robokiller that the company claims can fight back against telemarketers and robocalls in a unique way. It answers the calls you block with something called "answer bots." Teltech says they're the company's own robots that can "spam the spammers" with annoying calls.

Teltech claims Robokiller already has more than 1 million spammers on its list, with that number growing daily.

It also claims the app can reduce spam calls by 90 percent within 30 days.

If you get the Robokiller app, it'll cost you 99 cents per month.
