Gear Friday: Pumpkin Patch

The Halloween season wouldn't seem right without candy, and now pumpkins are a growing part of the Borderland Halloween tradition.

The crop of corn mazes that have grown in the Borderland also offer pumpkin patches. Young students on field trips delight themselves with finding the biggest pumpkin they can carry and dreaming of how they will carve it as a decoration or convince someone in their family to turn it into a pie.

The La Union Maze says the pumpkin patch has a special set of challenges as the crop is weather susceptible. But this year the crop's harvest has pleased the kids and their families alike, who many times use the pumpkin patch as a backdrop for family photos. The pictures are priceless to parents, but the kids we spoke with say they're not ready to replace Halloween trick or treating with pumpkin hunting.

The kids told us, the corn maze and pumpkin hunting are the weekend activities leading up to the trick or treating, which this year again falls on a school night.
