EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — An El Pasoan is celebrating following the nominations for the Golden Globes.
Spike Lee's film “BlacKkKlansman" was nominated for four Golden Globes: best motion picture (drama), best director, best actor and best supporting actor.
Ron Stallworth, a retired police officer and detective in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is the author of the memoir on which the film was based.
In a sit-down interview, he said he and his wife Patsy are happy after hearing the news.
“We were talking this morning, it’s almost like the first time we got invited to our first red carpet event,” said Stallworth.
The African-American policeman played by John David Washington portrays Stallworth when he was detective in the Colorado Springs Police Department. In the 1970s, Stallworth posed as a Ku Klux Klan leader to take down a local chapter.
His book, “Black Klansman,“ reached No. 1 on The New York Times' best-seller list earlier this fall.
Stallworth graduated from Austin High School in 1971.
