Becoming the Badge: The Last Day

El Paso police cadets

The 122nd is getting ready to graduate, it’s their last day at the El Paso Police Academy.

Seven and half months ago these 63 men and women reported to the police academy as civilians. They’ll leave as officers.

Cadets come from all walks of life. They come from all over the country and the Borderland.

They took different paths to get here. But their journeys became one, when they drove through the academy gates.

They have their own reasons for joining. Some of them are survivors, others have followed the paths of officers in their own lives.

In their hearts, the motivation is very much the same, to serve their community.

You’ve seen part of their story at the academy. High points and low points.

In the end, they’ve earned the badge.
