EL PASO, Texas - One far east El Paso elementary school is taking a stance on bullying.
Faculty, students and staff at Sgt. Roberto Ituarte Elementary are rising up in celebration for the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program kickoff campaign.
The program started Friday with a patriotic theme to pay tribute to 9/11.
Staff members at the school said they are committed to providing students with confidence and tips to become successful in life.
"We build self-esteem in our students. We teach them to be united and be defenders to stand up against bullying, and we also have our weekly anti-bully meetings," said Melissa Galvez, a counselor at the school. "Teachers every Monday faithfully for 30 minutes we have our Olweus anti-bully meetings."
During the rally, Chico, the mascot for the El Paso Chihuahuas, made an appearance to help spread the message.
