Insights Science Center to bring pop-up museum at Bassett Place Mall
EL PASO, Texas - The Insights Science Center has set up a Prehistoric Park pop-up museum to allow people in the community to get a sneak peak of what's to come in the future center.
It will open Saturday at Bassett Place and will exhibit dinosaurs, fossils and bones, and provide an interactive area for kids to play.
After the Insights Museum closed its doors to the public to allow room for the Southwest University Park in February 2013, the museum decided to revamp its image.
"I want all the people in El Paso, all of the community, to know that we're still alive," said Manny Colorado, Board of Insights Science Center chairman.
The name has been changed to Insights Science Center to inform people it will be an interactive area unlike museums where you can only see and not touch.
Come early January, the pop-up museum will pack up and move to its new permanent location, the old Alamo Elementary School in the Segundo barrio.
"We're working to get some of the major exhibits inside the science center," Colorado said.
The center still faces major challenges like funding.
"All those people who said that they're upset or frustrated that Insights was torn down have an opportunity to go to our website and hit that [donate] button. We need that help," Colorado said.
