8-year-old dancer wins national competition with her anti-bullying routine
EL PASO,Texas - An 8-year-old dancer took the grand championship in a national competition with her anti-bullying inspired routine.
Danika Luevano's routine won her first national title in Oklahoma City.
Her mother, Vanessa Luevano, said Danika competed against 70 other dancers from around the United States.
Becky Cano, who works with University of Texas at El Paso's Goldiggers, choreographed Danika's routine titled, "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me."
"This was a dance about bullying. I wanted to tell people you shouldn't be bullying anybody," Danika said.
She says this has been her favorite routine so far because of the positive message.
Danika has been dancing for two years and said she considers dancing to be a sport.
Triple D or Danika the Dancing Diva was the nickname given to her for her sassy way of dancing.
As far as future goals, Danika said she hopes to perform on Broadway as a professional dancer.
