Vista Del Sol Drive to see improvements soon

Another major roadway in far east El Paso is set for big improvements.

County leaders and the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority have had plans in the works for Vista Del Sol Drive for a few years. Now that a plan has been finalized, funds secured and bids in they are ready to secure a contractor and move forward to fix the road.

The stretch of Visa Del Sol Drive between Loop 375 to Cherrington Street is lined with dirt; flooding is an issue on the uneven path and there are only two lanes for east and westbound traffic.

Since the completion of the Loop 375 the area east of the intersection has seen a lot of new businesses and neighborhoods move in, meaning more traffic.

County Commissioner Vince Perez told KFOX14 the rapid growth is due to a lot of city residents moving into these county areas leaving the responsibility of creating more infrastructure on the county.

It’s the reason behind the County Comprehensive Mobility Plan, which has identified other major projects in the county and secured funding for them through a registration fee.

“That fee has helped leverage tens of millions of dollars and there are lots of projects currently ongoing because of that fee. No one likes fees but I hope they can see the progress created by this one because at a time when federal funding is decreasing we were able to secure this funding with a minimal fee to make these projects happen,” said Perez.

The Vista Del Sol improvement project includes widening the road from two to four lanes from Cherrington Street to Loop 375, new sides walks and other safety features.

The project is expected to cost $425,000.

Those living in the area and drivers will see those famous orange barrels in just a few weeks. The Vista Del Sol Improvement Project will start in April.

It’s one of many projects and Perez said the county is looking at other roadways like Rojas Dr. Currently roadwork is underway along Horizon Boulevard, Eastlake Drive and North Loop Road.
