New closures on interstate for GO10 project as crews build new ramps

GO10 is a the largest project TXDOT's El Paso District has taken on. The focus of the project is to help traffic flow along a heavily commuted portion of I-10 along west El Paso between the Executive Center Boulevard and North Mesa Street exits.

TXDOT started construction in April 2015, and it is expected to be complete in 2019.

Drivers need to plan ahead for the following detours, afternoon and overnight closures associated with the project.

I-10 & Mesa

The following closures will remain in place until further notice:

• The right turn-only lane on eastbound North Mesa Street (SH 20) is closed between Osborne Drive and South Desert Blvd.

• The right through lane on eastbound North Mesa Street (SH 20) will close between Osborne Drive and South Desert Blvd, but only when necessary and only during the day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Note: Access to businesses will remain open at all times. Crews are installing underground utilities.

Daytime

Monday, March 6 through Friday, March 10

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day

• The two-lane Sunland Exit Ramp (Exit 13, Westbound) will reduce to one lane.

This closure is necessary to give crews access to the work site. [Map 2]

• I-10 in both directions will reduce to two lanes between Sunland Park Drive and the Buena Vista area.

This closure is necessary so crews can drill column shafts into the ground between eastbound and westbound traffic lanes. The new columns will support the new Sunland Flyover Entrance Ramp to I-10 East.

Overnight

Sunday, March 5 through Thursday, March 9

9 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. each morning

• I-10 in both directions will reduce to one lane between the Thorn Avenue Overpass and North Mesa Street (SH 20).

Crews will be installing pavement on the median of the I-10 Overpass in preparation for the 27-hour closure on March 12.

• The Sunland Park Flyover Entrance Ramp to I-10 Eastbound will close.

Crews are conducting prep work for the eventual removal of the ramps.

Tuesday, March 7

9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning

• The Executive Exit Ramp (Exit 16, Westbound) will close.

Crews will be removing barrier walls and re-locating them in preparation for the 27-hour closure on March 12. [Map 3]

Paisano @ Sunland

Wednesday, March 8

9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning

• Paisano Drive frontage road (Eastbound) will close between Sunland Park Drive and Crockett Street.

Crews will be removing barrier walls and re-locating them in preparation for the 27-hour closure on March 12.
