Michael was born in Long Beach, California, and grew up in Lancaster, California. He is proud of his Tongan heritage and comes from a loving family of five siblings.

Michael traded in the snow for the sun when he moved to the Borderland after graduating from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism.

While in college, Michael danced with BYU’s Living Legends, traveling to such countries as Canada, New Zealand and Tonga. He was also a member of his school’s a cappella group and participated in a variety of clubs.

Michael took a break from school to serve a two-year church mission in Philadelphia.

He became interested in journalism when he was 13. Michael remembers watching the news every night with his grandmother and feeling a desire to pursue broadcast journalism as a career.

Since moving to El Paso, Michael has fallen in love with the amazing food, rich culture and kindhearted people.

He is excited to join the Borderland community to share your stories. If you have any story ideas, you can contact Michael through email, Twitter or Facebook.
