UTEP hockey opens home season

UTEP hockey season is in full effect. The first home season opener against the Northern Arizona Ice Jacks is on Friday.

The two-game series begins at 7 p.m. Friday and 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the El Paso County Coliseum Events Center at 4100 E. Paisano Drive.

Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the El Paso County Coliseum Box Office, Ticketmaster, or by calling 800-745-3000.

The Miners, under coach Tom Herman, are 2-3. The teamed opened the season with losses to Texas A&M and Texas State, but pulled off two wins against Texas Tech this weekend.

UTEP’s hockey team competes in the Texas Collegiate Hockey Conference, which is part of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. The TCHC features two divisions and a final championship tournament that comes with an automatic berth into the ACHA Division 2 West Regional. UTEP competes in the South Division with Texas, Texas A&M and Texas State, while the North Division features Texas Tech, North Texas, TCU and Dallas Baptist.
