World Cup fans flocking from both sides of border to buy Mexico gear

As fans prepare for this year's World Cup, there is one spot downtown that has Mexico supporters flocking from both sides of the border.

As fans prepare for this year's World Cup, there is one spot downtown that has Mexico supporters flocking from both sides of the border. Santa Cachucha is selling jerseys, flags and hats just for the World Cup. Santa Cachucha sits just a few steps away from the U.S.-Mexico border.

"They want to share their team and they want to be trending,” said Santa Cachucha owner Miguel Lara.

"I've got my shorts, my jersey and everything, even my bandana with Mexico flag and everything,” said Northeast El Paso resident Juan Guevara.

"I haven't bought anything. I will soon though,” said Juarez resident Alfonso Valenzuela.

Fans come from both El Paso and Juarez to buy the Mexico gear.

"Normally, sales drop during the summer,” Lara said. “So this is the perfect item to have during the summer.”

KFOX14 asked people who they are cheering for.

"Mexico, of course,” Lara said.

"Pride, Mexican pride,” Juarez resident Osvaldo Martinez said.

"I go for Mexico because they are some of the best,” Valenzuela said.

"Mexico, because I'm a Mexican and I have big hopes that we can win the World Cup this year,” Guevara said.

Lara said sales at the stand are skyrocketing.

"They have their heart in Mexico,” he said. “They have their hopes still. It's going to be a good World Cup."

"I'm from Mexican bloodline. It's like supporting your own family, you know?" Martinez said. "It's just feels great, the emotions you have during the game. And when you watch a game, especially the World Cup, you get a good sense of rush."

"I know for a fact they're going to win this World Cup, because I'm going to be cheering for them," Guevara said.

Fans are hoping that this kind of confidence coming from El Paso and Juarez will fuel a win.

The World Cup starts Thursday on KFOX14.
