UPDATE: El Paso Water tweeted that water was restored to residents just before 10 p.m.

El Paso Water crews are working to restore water to customers Tuesday after a water main line broke.

A water line broke around 8 a.m. in an alley near Piedras and Fort Boulevard in central El Paso.

Water company officials said a contractor working for the gas company hit the water line.

When our news crew arrived, water could be seen gushing from the ground into the air, hitting electric lines and homes nearby.

The water was shut off around 10 a.m.

About 35 El Paso Water customers were affected. They are without water. Water officials say water should be restored sometime Tuesday afternoon.

Crews remain at the scene.

"I had just gotten up to go to the bathroom and she goes it's raining outside and after I came out I look in the backyard and there's this geyser out there and I go "oh god they're going to turn off the water" so I go run and take a quick shower. I take a quick shower and come back and had breakfast and nothing it was still going on. Till just recently," said Oscar Gomez.
