Valentine’s Day sales off to good start for local chocolate shop

The crunch time to beat last year's sales continues Tuesday morning in a local chocolate shop called Chocolat’.

But the planning starts before the big day. Pre-orders started in January and so did the creativity.

So far, it's been paying off with hundreds of orders ready for Valentine’s Day.

Employees have to clock in at 1 a.m. Tuesday to help prepare the chocolate, make the designs and package them nicely to head out.

It’s all done at the last minute so the chocolate remains fresh.

The owner of Chocolat', Leigh Kersh, told KFOX14 the company is ahead of schedule with sales between 15 percent and 20 percent better than last year.

“It is 2:30 p.m. and we are in great shape and still ahead of figures,” said Leigh. “You know, what it is basically is men have to come in, they do not want to be in the doghouse. Whether it is raining or snowing or sleet or whatever the case may be, they will show up.”

Chocolat’ normally opens at 10 a.m. but on Valentine’s Day it will open at 9 a.m. and will stay open until 6 or 7 p.m.
