Tax free weekend in Texas: What you need to know before you shop

Texas is part of the fifteen states who offer a tax free shopping weekend during the month of August.

The 18th annual tax free weekend began at midnight on Friday. It will last through Sunday.

The state estimates Texans will save $87 million in taxes over the weekend.

The law states that you will not have to pay sales tax on clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks that are priced for less than $100 per item.
