Ski Apache in Ruidoso will be closing due to warmer conditions.

The ski resort plans on closing at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

"It's been unseasonably warm," said Justin Huffmon, the director of marketing for Ski Apache. "All winter it's been fairly warm, and it's forcing us to have to close significantly earlier than last year."

The weather this year hasn't been too kind to Ski Apache.

According to Huffmon, the resort tries to open every year on Thanksgiving Day. However, due to warm weather and lack of snow Huffmon said the resort couldn't open until Dec. 10.

People who came to Ski Apache on Thursday were shocked to hear it was closing so soon.

"We come every spring break," said Delila Chisolm, who lives in El Paso. "We got lucky that we came today instead of coming tomorrow when the snow was even more melted."

Even though the resort needed to open later this season and is closing about a month earlier than last year, Huffmon said it hasn't affected business.

"We try to do whatever we can to make sure things are running well and get people out here," Huffmon said. "But this early closure can happen from time to time, but business-wise it was still a successful season."

Ski Apache plans on closing 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

While the weather is shutting down the skiing season for Ski Apache, it is allowing the Inn of the Mountain Gods resort to open its golf course three weeks earlier starting Friday.
