The city will discuss a proposal Tuesday evening that would bring parking meters to the Kern Place Area and then use the money collected toward improvements in the district.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the public is invited to learn more about the proposal and provide feedback. Attendees will also be able to discuss recommended boundaries for the metered parking and which improvements would be funded by the collected money.

Claire Caruthers is a UTEP student who heads to the area often to grab a bite to eat or study. Caruthers says that knowing her money is going to be feeding the district, she’s “glad to give her money to the parking meters.” Caruthers continued that she “would rather it going to something that’s going to be beneficial, especially when it comes to construction."

Her friend, Alessandra Valenzuela, agrees. Valenzuela told KFOX14 that if she “didn’t know it was going to the district, I would be kind of upset.” Valenzuela continued that “knowing it’s going to help us and help attract people and help make it safer, then it’s going to help.”

Tuesday’s community meeting will take place at Pat O’Rourke recreation center at 6 p.m.
