Players from NMSU’s last bowl game in 1960 to root for team at NOVA Bowl

Lou Zivkovich was a tackle for the Aggies in 1960 – the last time NMSU played in a bowl game.

With just a day to go before New Mexico State breaks its 57-year bowl game drought, a former Aggie is ready to cheer his team on.

Lou Zivkovich was a tackle for the Aggies in 1960 – the last time NMSU played in a bowl game.

Zivkovich said he couldn’t sleep when the Aggies won their last game and qualified for a bowl game.

He said that as soon as he found out his team was bowl bound, he knew he had to make the trip

“Fifty-seven years. What more can you say? I was going to say, ‘Is this ever going to happen again?’” Zivkovich said.

At least six players from that 1960 team are expected to cheer on NMSU as they take on Utah State at the NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl on Friday.
