Teen dead following shooting in the Lower Valley
EL PASO, Texas —
A 17-year-old died from his injuries following a shooting in the Lower Valley, according to El Paso police spokesman Enrique Carrillo.
He was identified as Juan Manuel Cervantes.
According to police, he was shot in his upper torso.
Cervantes was taken to Del Sol Medical Center for treatment, where he later died.
The shooting happened around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday on the 8400 block of Hughes Circle near Roseway Drive.
An El Paso Police Department helicopter was spotted in the area looking for the suspect.
A spokesperson with the Ysleta Independent School District said Cervantes was a student at Ysleta High School.

The Ysleta Independent School District Board of Trustees, administration, and staff send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to his family and the Ysleta High School community. Grief counselors are onsite at Ysleta High School to help students and staff as needed.
