MLK Jr. Day free event aims to make families safer
EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) —
The American Red Cross, the El Paso Fire Department and the Department of Animal Services will combine efforts to provide free smoke alarms and free pet microchips during a Martin Luther King Jr. Day event on Monday.
The goal of the event is to make El Paso families, and their pets, safer. It will begin at 10 a.m. and go until 2 p.m.
Volunteers will be canvassing the neighborhood between Gaius Drive and Mount Boucherie Lane to install new smoke alarms. In the past year, nearly 1,000 free smoke alarms have been installed to make families and homes safer.
Dozens of free pet microchips will also be given out as the Department of Animal Services participates in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service for the first time.
