Loaded handgun, illegal drugs found in car traveling along Montana

Richard Garcia was charged with possession of marijuana under two ounces. His bond was set at $300.

Three men are accused of riding in a car in central El Paso Saturday with illegal drugs and a loaded handgun.

A strong odor of marijuana coming from a Chevrolet Impala driving along the 4800 block of Montana Avenue triggered nearby police officers to pull over the driver.

The three men inside the car were identified as Oscar Salais, 25, Omar Meraz, 19, and Richard Garcia,19, all from Anthony, New Mexico.

Police said Garcia had marijuana on him, Meraz was in possession of marijuana and cocaine, and a loaded 9mm handgun was found on Salais.

Garcia was charged with possession of marijuana under 2 ounces, His bailwas set at $300.

Meraz was charged with possession of marijuana and a controlled substance (cocaine) with bail totaling $15,300.

Salais was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by felon. His bail was set at $5,000.

All three men were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
