Local law enforcement officers gather outside Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Socorro, Texas.

Hundreds packed Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Socorro Friday to pay their final respects to fallen El Paso police Officer David Ortiz.

Law enforcement agencies involved in the mass include local departments, Houston Police Department, Dallas Police Department and police from Hobbs, New Mexico. Agencies came from across Texas and New Mexico.

"It feels good to have a community come together for the family, the wife and the kids especially," said Ortiz family friend Lisa Ahumada.

The Rev. Fabian Marquez thanked Ortiz and his grieving family during the Mass.

"It was a very moving service. I knew the wife personally. We went to school together," he said. "That is always sad when you can actually relate to the family. It was beautiful to see the entire community come together to worship, to pray and to thank the Lord for the life of this man."

Ortiz died Monday after a driver rear-ended his motorcycle on Lee Trevino and Vista del Sol drives on March 14. Police said no charges have been filed and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

Ortiz was 45 years old and a nine-year veteran of the force.
