As a woman was being placed under arrest, she kicked a Las Cruces police officer in the leg, said police.

She is facing a fourth-degree felony charge, battery upon a peace officer.

Police said Monica L. Salazar was breaking into windows to vehicles outside of her home along the 2200 block of Lester Drive.

When police officers tried talking with her, they said she refused and yelled expletives at them.

Salazar is accused of kicking a police officer while in custody, said police.

Salazar was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center early Sunday morning. She was released on a $1,000 secured bond later that day.
